Paper timesheets, spreadsheets, or a service that bills per head every month and keeps the data elsewhere: small teams have a third option. Redmine – free and open source – plus our Time Tracking plugin: projects, tasks and hours in one place, paid once, on your own infrastructure.
Redmine is a project management tool with projects, issues, a wiki and time entries, developed as free software since 2006 and used by tens of thousands of companies and public bodies. It runs on a server you control – no vendor holds your data, nobody bills per user. Our plugins build on it and turn the tool into time tracking that teams actually use.
Teams of 3 to 50 who want tasks and hours together – agencies, IT service providers, engineering offices, freelancers with project work.
If you only want a stopwatch without projects and issues, or do not want to run a server, a dedicated time-tracking service will serve you better. We would rather say so up front.
Redmine: €0. Time Tracking: €249 net, one-time per instance, unlimited users, 12 months of updates. Plus a small server – a virtual machine is enough.
| Time-tracking service, €8 per user per month | Redmine + atori Time Tracking | |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | €960 | €249 plugin + server |
| Year 2 | €960 | server (updates optional) |
| Year 3 | €960 | server |
| Your data lives | with the vendor | on your server |
| Users 11 to 50 | €96 each per year | included |
Example with a typical list price; server costs from about €5 a month depending on the host. All prices net.

Yes – you, your IT, or a service provider. With Docker it takes about 15 minutes: three commands and a complete instance is running. Our guide “Redmine in 15 minutes” walks through installation and plugin setup step by step. You need a server or a small virtual machine for it.
No. It is a plugin that extends Redmine with the weekly grid, timers, submitting and approving. If all you want is a stopwatch without projects and issues, a dedicated time-tracking service will serve you better. If you want projects, tasks, hours and later invoices in one place, this is exactly that.
Redmine itself costs nothing. The plugin is €249 net, one-time, per Redmine instance regardless of the number of users, with twelve months of updates. Add the cost of the server Redmine runs on – a small virtual machine is enough.
Yes, without installing anything: our demo is a complete Redmine with all five atori plugins and sample data. The credentials are on the demo's start page. Enter hours, submit a week, approve it as a manager – all of it can be tried there.
With the Invoicing plugin: it builds invoices per customer and period from approved hours – as PDF and as e-invoice (ZUGFeRD or XRechnung). Contractors billing through an agency such as Hays export an approved period as a file for the agency's portal instead.
